Hailing from Down Under, KOLIDESCOPES is a duo of Johnny Castro and UK Born Dan Dare. Together they’ve peaked at #6 on the top 10 Upfront Club Charts for their previous release. And they promise much more to come for the year 2019.

Before the two crossed paths, Johnny Castro made a name for himself as one half of Parachute Youth with Mathew KVon, while Dan Dare served as a member of Gritty Committee before adopting his current moniker, under which he collaborated with Wiley, Giggs and Juelz Santana on the track ‘Bright Lights’.

The two blessed us with their time and answered a few questions about their previous quests in music, how they met and where they hope to go from here.

Talk a bit about your past projects and how it brought you together. What
do you individually bring to the table?

(Dan) Johnny is a beast on the keys & melody’s so he’s almost the first point of
call for that, I like to think I’m good with beats and words.

(Johnny) I met Dan basically in a studio session that our Publishers put together.
I was living in London writing with a lot of people for Yeah Boy. Dan and I hit it off straight away both creatively and personally, it was a good laugh
that turned into an exciting new project, Kolidescopes.

Set the tone for us. How would you describe your sound?

(Dan) Music for the sun, music for the nights.

(Johnny) Summer, Fun, Dreamy. Just music to put a smile on your face :)

What’s on your current playlist?

I really like the new Clean Cut Record, Stormzy Vossi Bop & amp; Lauv is making some
great records recently

Take us through your songwriting process. Are there any particular steps

you take when putting music together?

Chords and melody ideas, mostly we sit down have a chat about what’s going on
in our life’s present and previous then chuck some key words around for the

What gets your creative juices flowing?

(Dan) A clear mind.

(Johnny) Many things, travelling, watching a gig or just waking up in a great
mood! It can come all of a sudden and when it does you just want to race to the
studio! haha

What do you personally consider to be the incisive moments in your
artistic career?

(Dan) Before KOLIDESCOPES and whilst being a duo I was working with some
pretty big artists which was good. Signed a record deal with Parlophone for
different project. Johns had a load of success in that field too. Just trying to bring
it all together.

David Bowie is quoted as saying "It makes me so angry that people
concentrate on lyrics. It implies there’s no message in the music itself."
What are your thoughts on this statement? Music or lyrics?

(Dan) I’m sitting on the fence on this, I hear some amazing melody’s on songs
with garbage words haha but still like 'em. Depends on what your listening to the
song for. A mood or to dance.

Tell us about the chemistry you have with your fans on stage. What is the
most memorable response you have had to your music?

(Dan) Is always nice getting videos from people in exotic places playing the
songs on beaches/mountains etc

If you had to choose between never playing live again, or never being able
to release music again… Which would you go for, and why?

(Dan) Never playing, writing music is like therapy

Breakdown the news for us: what can we expect from you in the near

(Dan) A relentless release plan of bangers :)

Famous last words?

(Dan) Quangos Pesos
