NEW VIDEO // Frequency Cowboy's 'Control'

By Alex Brown - 4.8.17

Classically trained pianist and multi-instrumentalist Sam Hurt, AKA Frequency Cowboy has been making waves with his quirky blend of upbeat instrumentals and characteristically 90’s style songwriting. His debut single ‘Control’ has just been released via Dactyl Spondee Records. In addition, the artist has just shared the video for the track.

He has gained the attention of tastemaker publications, with ‘Control’ being premiered by The Line Of Best Fit and picked by DIY Mag as part of their “guide to best new music.” A Wurlitzer piano is the core instrument on his tracks, and creates the backbone for his distinctive sound.

Citing influences as varied as Sir Was, Beck and Sonic Youth, Hurt uses the Wurlitzer piano as the elemental instrument to create his idiosyncratic blend of indie pop.

"The video was a joint effort with me and my partner” says Hurt “She wrote and directed; I built the set. It’s about drawing parallels between Orwell’s 1984 and what’s happening right now. We’re living in a post-truth era. Democracy is being ‘managed’ by billionaire donors using big data, social media and TV to present untruths as fact. Brexit, Trump, Teresa May what next?"
